Everyone has their favorite color of skittle, M&M or other tasty candy but who wants the mondane task of sorting them for your perfect handful. Brian Egenriether to the rescue! He has developed the Skittles Sorting Machine, a machine that automates the sorting of your candies into separate bowls at the bottom of the machine. The machine is controlled by a ‘BASIC stamp microcontroller’ combined with turnstile, chute and hopper all housed in shell. Everything was created from machinable epoxy. The ‘BASIC stamp microcontroller’ is actuated by three servo motors and the color detection stage is done with a CCD sensor using red, blue, and green filters.
